Last week I met up with Tiffany-Annabelle for lunch. Having arrived a bit early at the GBK burgers (yes, that was a day off my diet plan…) I settled for a corner table at the back of the restaurant, took off my coat and waited.

We started chatting and I couldn’t help but admire Tiffany’s strong entrepreneurial spirit as she told me how she and her mum have built the U-Wantit.com business from scratch.

The idea for the website came to them based on a dream. A dream that anyone should be able to get hold of a real luxury product, even if they can’t afford it.

Sounds pretty impossible, right? Well, the U-Wantit team made this dream a reality!

THE U-Want It! FACTOR

So here is the thing… you can get luxury items from U-WantIt.com page by paying only a fraction of the original retail price. But there is a hook – the website has a touch of gamification, so you need to place bids (like in a real auction) in order to get the product of your dreams.

However, instead of bidding the highest price like you usually would expect in an auction, Tiffany and her mum decided to reverse the bidding process. That means that the lowest unique bid wins!

For example, the Michael Kors Selma below got auctioned for £2.03. Whoat??? Well, let me explain exactly how it works.

The site works like this – to place a bid you buy credit and with your credits you can bid for a variety of luxury items, it’s that simple! The lower your bid the better and if its unique, you buy at that price!

REVEAL THE PRICE

Don’t like bidding? Then you need to check out the “Reveal the Price” auctions. The price of the bag is hidden and gets revealed every time someone clicks the “reveal the price” button. It costs credits to press the button, however it also makes the price of the item drop. So the more members click, the more the price drops. If you like the price revealed when you click, go ahead and Buy. For example, a U-want it member recently bought a Prada Saffiano Double Zip Tote bag (RRP 1350) for an amazing £721.
